Proximity to an Atria Access Point (AP) – The closer you are to an AP the better connection rate (less retransmissions, stronger signal, and more bandwidth) you will experience. The further away from an AP you are the weaker your connection will be. In order to connect to Atria’s wireless network, you should be no further than 200 meters from an AP outdoors, and that distance decreases with obstructions or when inside.
Reduce Interference – In order to have the best connection reduce the number of things that will cause interference with your wireless signal.
Use a Wireless Bridge/Gateway – Most notebook computers internal wireless cards have less output power to conserve battery life and use low gain antennas to reduce size and weight. Using an external bridge will allow notebook users to experience a better signal indoors where that additional power is required. A bridge is a separate wireless device based on the 802.11b/g protocol that was designed to add desktop computers and printers to the wireless network, or to ‘bridge’ two separate wired networks together.
The Wi-Fi bridge may have a built-in LAN switch which would allow connecting multiple devices, and more advanced bridges may integrate a firewall / router, or a second wireless radio. The bridge can be set-up inside of a house where it receives the best signal and then a cable can be run to the computer, a switch or a residential DSL / Cable router.

Atria Networks strongly recommends using a wireless bridge/gateway for indoor use or in places where weaker signals are being received. Atria has tested the Ruckus MetroFlex High Performance Wireless Access Gateway and has found it to be an improvement over built-in notebook radios and low power omni wireless bridges. Other devices may work as well.
